Over the past 40-50 years , as I have grown from my childhood to present, was just thinking what all changes have happened in the name of technology advances and its impact on our system.  In the name of comfort are we losing ?
 

Nature has a very simple rule "Use it or lose it".  ie whatever ability our body & mind can do , if its not used for considerable amount of time then the ability gets lost.

Listing down what all I (we) have lost over a period of time and what all I ( we ) can do to retain and regain those ability.


Physical

1 ) Automobiles & Lifts : Losing the basic ability to walk few hundreds of metres/few floors without getting tired. This is one of the main cause of so many health issues.

Re(t/g)ain : Avoid using lifts & automobiles and Start using cycle , walking as much as possible.

2 ) Medicines : Person who knows how to cook and who has cooked the food, will definetly knows how to correct the food. Similarly the consciousness who is running the body also has mechanism to heal itself.

Re(t/g)ain : Allow the body to get healed when simple things like stomach digestion issues, fever, cold. Have been doing this for past 8-10 years. Continue to do the same and follow proper life styles.

3) Handwriting
Its long time I had wrote more than few sentence together with Pen/Paper.
Re(t/g)ain : Find ways to start physical writting including blogs like this.


Mental abilities

  • 1 ) Phone Contacts
    Re(t/g)ain  : Now can remember only 5 close relatives numbers . Should increase it to 10 and add atleast one every month

  • 2 ) Google MapDirections and spatial awareness are getting lost by always relying on Google Maps
    Re(t/g)ain :   Wont use google map for known locations.  For new locations ask people for directions

  • 3 ) Alarm Clock / Scheduler
    Mind has an internal clock. On important occassions mind will wake you before the clock.

    Mind can remember so many things, but always relying on scheduler , is not utilising this ability .

    Re(t/g)ain :Stop using Alarm Clock and schedulers for a while and see the consequences

  • 4 ) Social Media (shorts)
    Lots of research are already published that humans especially young people are not able to focus for a longer period of time.

    Not watching shorts and watch long time videos

    5 ) Physical Social Communication

    Re(t/g)ain

    Talk to people physically, and not rely on messages & voice messages.

    6 ) ChatGPT & AI tools

    This would be a real killer . As in the past 30-40 years technology advances have reduced our physical workload and hence the birth of so many physical diseases like obesity , anemia , BP/sugar......

    Now the AI tools are trying to reduce our mental workload .  If we start using UI without being aware , can you imagine the consequences ?  What all mental abilities we can lose ?

    Analytical thinking, problem solving , creativity ,social communications, emotions...


    These are the abilities which differentiates an animal/robot to humans.

    In the race to make a robot more human, we humans are at the risk of becoming robots. Is it worth the risk ?

    Have you noticed these things too . Do you want to retain/regain these abilities ?. (or) Is comfort and going with the technology flow is more important .
